“In these very anxious and polarized times, we persons of faith are called to come together in unity to demonstrate our respect and appreciation for human differences— religious, racial, cultural, and otherwise, and to model the values and teachings of our respective faiths for the benefit of the entire community. We hope you will join us as a collaborator in this effort.”
– Chip Harrod, Festival Director

Summary of our Friendship Circle event at the Holocaust and Humanity Center on April 17th
By Becca Desai, Co-Chair with Joey Taylor, Friendship Circle
Our Friendship Circle’s event at The Holocaust & Humanity Center was truly memorable for all of us who attended it. We were a small group of about a dozen people, but to all of us it was one of THE most meaningful and memorable time spent together. Jake Campbell, our host of the evening, simply blew us away with his presentation and knowledge throughout our tour of the spectacular exhibits at the HHC. That evening, being the ending of the observance of Yom Hashoah, added even more meaning and purpose to our event that day. Throughout his presentation and the exhibits there, what we took away continuously was an inspiring message – that we all can make an even more conscious effort to always to be an upstander against human atrocities, instead of being a bystander!
Some of the comments about the evening from our guests were “Jake’s presentation was masterful and engaging”; “Jake was outstanding in his presentation, and this evening has moved me beyond words”; “Thank you so much for the lovely evening. It was so educational. We learned a lot”; “it was such a special evening”; “I love how our friendships keep getting deeper, kudos to the Friendship Circle’; “the entire event was alive with so much spirit that I could feel my heart grow”; “Jake, you have inspired me even more to make a very conscious effort always to be an upstander as long as I live”; “Thanks so much for another very, very meaningful and beautiful Friendship Circle event. The tour was extraordinary, and, of course, our time together once again was very, very special”.
As Jake and Joey led us through the Candle Lighting Ceremony, in loving memory and honor of the victims of Holocaust, we all took some moments of quiet reflection during the Flame Meditation on what we can do, going forward, to prevent humanity from ever experiencing such sadness ever again, and how we should consciously be aware to not be a bystander, but be an active upstander for peace and justice for all of humanity. Over our dinner together, we all reflected on how each of our faiths reminds us about our individual, and collective responsibilities to consciously contribute towards a peaceful and harmonious world!
